Student loan mohela is a loan taken out by Indian students who wish to pursue higher studies abroad.

Its first installment is to be paid after a period of 5 years after graduation and the remaining installments should be paid over the period of 10 years.

Once these payments have been completed, the student gets a chance to pay off his/her loan before interest begins accumulating.

A student with outstanding loan amount should not seek employment and should only focus on studies if he/she feels confident about completing the payment schedule.

Student loans in India are generally provided under two schemes-

One scheme includes both government and private banks providing loans for education purposes.

Another scheme was introduced in 2014 called Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).

The PMJDY aims at providing financial inclusion to every citizen of India.

In order to avail of this scheme, the applicant must fulfill certain criteria.

He/She must ensure that his/her bank account is active and registered with Aadhaar Card.

His/Her savings account should not have a zero balance.
