College Degree

It’s always been a dream of mine to attend college where I could study subjects that interest me and have access to books, labs, and equipment. Unfortunately, my parents couldn’t afford to help fund my education so I had to settle for student loans. After graduation, I started working to pay off my debt while trying to save money at the same time.

Home Improvements

After years of paying off my student loan debt, I decided to start looking for ways to improve my home. I wanted something to make my place feel more like home and to attract potential tenants. I eventually settled on a renovation project that included moving my furniture, painting, and installing some lighting fixtures.

Family Vacation

The year was coming to an end and I still hadn’t taken any family vacation since we began paying off our mortgage. My wife suggested that we take a trip somewhere warm and sunny. So, we booked a flight to Orlando and rented a car. We spent three days sightseeing around Disney World before heading back home.

Traveling Abroad

As soon as my student loan debt was paid off, I decided to travel abroad for a month. Being away from everything familiar felt great! I visited London, Paris, Florence, and Rome while exploring their culture, history, and architecture. There were many things I never knew about those places before, including the fact that they don’t use the metric system.

A Second Chance

My husband and I were about to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary when tragedy struck. Our house caught fire. Thankfully, no one was injured, but we lost everything. When our insurance company refused to cover what little we did own, we were left with no choice but to file for bankruptcy. That’s when I realized how much I value having a college degree. Without it, we wouldn’t know how to rebuild our lives and get back on track financially.

A Better Future

When you’re young, you think you’ll live forever! However, after reading the news last week, I learned that Americans born today have a 1-in-14 chance of dying before reaching age 65. In addition, my best friend died suddenly when he hit his head playing football. It taught me not to underestimate the importance of planning for retirement, even though it may not seem like it now.

Retirement Savings

I’ve worked hard throughout my entire adult life, and I want to retire early. To do that, I need to save $1 million dollars. No matter how much money I earn, it won’t be enough if I’m only saving 15% of it each year. Fortunately, I have a 401K account set up. If I put aside ten percent of my income, I should reach my goal.

How much money did you graduate school?

I graduated college at 17; however, now I would say since then I’ve only managed to earn around $20-30K each year. I never got into any serious trouble, but still turned my loans into over 60,000 dollars…mostly just paying them off with interest.

Did you drop out after high school? Do you have plans on dropping back out?

No, I never dropped out, but I do plan on going back and getting my GED in the near future.

What was the total amount you were making per month before taxes & deductions?

In 2012, we had been averaging about $2000 per month, including our taxes and expenses.

What type of job are you currently doing at?

Right now I work for myself. I am an online marketer who operates under a brand called “Endless Opportunities”.

Can you repeat this process over and over again?

Yes, you can continue qualifying for student loans until you reach your goal. Just keep in mind that you will not be able to borrow more than the amount you already owe unless you are willing to accept a higher interest rate along with having to pay additional fees. These student loans are great because they don’t require you to work while you are in school and they offer a lot of flexibility when it comes to payments.

Do these student loans affect future employers?

No, students should not be worried about their future employment due to outstanding student loans. Your employer will not know about your current status. Student loan debt has reached $1.5 trillion dollars in America alone. This figure is only expected to increase in the years to come. If you struggle with student loans, we have some good news. There are several options out there to help you pay off those debts before they become overwhelming. We’ll go over 4 ways to get rid of your student loans in no time at all!

Find a school in your area that offers free tuition. You may not know where to look, so take a close look at local colleges and universities in your community. Many schools offer their students scholarships to attend classes at state-run institutions for little to no cost. When you are ready to graduate, you simply pick up your diploma and walk away without owing any money to the institution.

Take advantage of government grants. Every year, the U.S. Department of Education gives out billions of dollars in grants to students. These funds cover everything from textbooks to room and board. Students who qualify can apply for need-based financial aid or merit-based awards. While these programs aren’t perfect, they do give you a leg up on paying for college.

Work for free. Do you love working in a particular field? Perhaps you want to become a web designer or a nurse. Instead of attending expensive four-year university, consider finding a non-profit organization like Americorps or VolunteerMatch that matches you with opportunities in your community. In return for your volunteer work, you may receive valuable skills and training. Check out our top 10 jobs for teens page for even more ideas!
