Navient is a bank owned by the US Department of Education. Their goal is to provide students with education loans at affordable interest rates. Student loan debt now stands at $1.5 trillion. But how safe is it? How are they collected? Are student loans any good? Should I get them? Let’s find out!

Navient was founded in 1866 by the US government. The United States Department of Education owns 50% of its stocks and bonds. In 2014, Navient was purchased by Sallie Mae (an American educational services company based in Los Angeles, California). However, Sallie Mae is no longer affiliated with Navient. As of June 2015, Navient had over 4 million active borrowers receiving more than $130 billion in federal financial aid.

Before applying for student loans, make sure you understand all the terms and conditions of the contract. If you sign without reading, you may not know what you are signing away. You should also check to see if there are any late fees for paying back the loan.

Your monthly payments are determined by how much money you borrow, how long you want to repay the loan, and whether you pay interest or not. It’s important to watch your payment amount carefully. If you have trouble making ends meet, talk to your parents about getting extra help.

Loans are typically issued directly from Navient to the borrower. However, private companies called third-party administrators (TPAs) are responsible for processing and disbursing funds.

There are two types of accounts-Direct Loan and Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP). To open a direct loan account, you need to go to Once logged in, click “Open New Account” under the “Accounts & Services” tab. Select the type of account you would like to create and follow the prompts. After opening your account, you will receive an email containing information about your newly created account.

FFELP loans require that you apply online and select the option to “Apply Now” after logging into the website. Then, you must complete the application and submit documents proving you qualify for a loan before receiving approval.

A few things to note about student loans: Interest accrues daily on the principal balance of the loan and is compounded annually. Also, if you default on any loan payments, you could lose your home, car, wages, and even your Social Security benefits.

Don’t fall victim to fake websites since it sounds like a scam. Navient does not operate these websites, and there are no links to them on their official website. Any site claiming to be associated with Navient is a scam and should be ignored.

If you take out a loan, make sure you always have access to your accounts online. That way, you won’t miss any payments. If you fail to make payments, Navient sends lenders to your property and takes possession of your vehicle.

Avoid using third-party service providers like bill collectors and collection agencies to help manage your finances. These companies often charge high fees and don’t notify borrowers of upcoming payments.

Make sure you aren’t overdrawn on your checking account. Lenders won’t approve your loans unless you have enough cash in your checking account. LendUp helps customers avoid overdraft charges by providing free overdraft protection.

Open checking and savings accounts at local banks. Banks regularly offer low-interest checking accounts and savings accounts. Both are insured by the FDIC.

Keep your personal and business credit card statements separate. If you’re having problems repaying your debts, creditors may report your bad history to potential future employers.
