Vermont Student Aid

Vermont Student Aid (VSAN).(VSAN).

The Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) is a private,private, non-profit organization that was created in 1967 by the state legislature to provide education financing assistance programs. VSAN provides financial aid grants to students who qualify financially based on their family income and assets. VSAN’s mission is to ensure access to higher education for low-income students in Vermont,Vermont, and they do this by providing financial assistance to eligible students for educational costs.

The StudentThe Student Financial Aid Office (SFAO)

VSAC partners with the SFAO to administer a variety of student financial aid programs. The SFAO works directly with families to help them apply for need-based financial aid from the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation.

The FinancialThe Financial Aid Program (FAP)

The FAP program assists students who meet certain criteria. These may include being a full-time undergraduate student enrolled at least half time, applying for admission after September 1st of each year, enrolling in any type of degree program, and having a GPA of 2.0 or greater. Students who have demonstrated a willingness to work while attending school are also given consideration. The FAP provides financial assistance to students who can demonstrate a loss of funds due to unforeseen circumstances such as medical expenses, job losses, car accidents, etcetera. The amount of FAP funds variesvaries depending on the situation.

Need-BasedNeed-Based Grants

Students who receive need-based grant funding are awarded amounts ranging between $500 and $2000 per month. Grant recipients are not expected to pay back these funds. However. However, interest accrues on the award and could result in future loans. Students who receive grants are placed on a payment plan and are required to maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.75 throughout enrollment. If a student fails to maintain the necessary GPA, the grant is canceled and the student loses eligibility for the following year.

Low Income Loans

Low income loans are provided to those who cannot afford to borrow money from traditional lending institutionsinstitutions. Students who do not qualify for federal financial aid and receive no grants are eligible for low-incomelow-income loan funding. Loan awards range from $100-$1000 per semester for undergraduate students. There are strict income requirements, and the loan amount decreases if the annual household income exceeds $50,000. In order to qualify for low-incomelow-income loan funding, students shouldfile a file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
