What were your major concerns regarding paying back student loans?
Well,Well, I had just started my freshman year at USC and was not really financially stable. . I did make some bad choices when it came to loan payments. After college, I knew I wanted to go to law school. But, I didn’t want any debt hanging over my head. At the time, I wasn’t sure if I could afford to do both. So, I figured law school would take care of itself while I worked hard to pay off my student loans.It turns It turns out, it’s been almost 10 years since I graduated and I’m still working towards getting them paid off!
How long have you owed money on your student loans?
It took me about 4 years before I finally paid off my first federal student loan. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get rid of my private student loans until 2 years later. I still owe approximately $30,000 on those two loans.
Did you find yourself having trouble repaying your student loans?
Yes, I had trouble repaying my student loans. There were times whenwhen I felt like I was being extorted. My minimum payment changed every month, causing me to feel pressured to keep up with what they demanded from me. Luckily, I got help from different organizationsto help to help me tackle these problems.
Were you ever turned down for a job due to outstanding student loans?
Yes. Many employers don’t want to hire someone who owes them thousands of dollars. I’ve even heard stories of people changing their names to hide their debts. That’s how serious some companies treat student loans.
Do you think student loan forgiveness programs can help students achieve financial stability and freedom?
Absolutely. Student Loan Forgiveness is great! If you’re able to qualify, it means you won’t need to worry about your debt anymore. You’ll be free of that burden and no longer have to struggle to repay it.
Are you aware of how many people actually benefit from student loan forgiveness programs?
Not everyone knows But, according to the U.S. Department of Education, only 12% of borrowers receive relief under these types of programs.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your experience with student loans?
If you’re struggling to pay back your student loans, it may seem overwhelming. Don’t give up! Talk to a counselor or group leader. Also, there are lots of ways to manage your finances. Get creative and learn how to budget effectively. And lastly, start small. Paying off $50 a month is easier than trying to pay off $1000 at once.
