Borrowing Money From Your 401k
You could borrow money from your retirement account if your employer offers a qualified plan (401k). As long as your job does not terminate prior to May 1st 2018, you may continue to contribute to your company’s 401k plan. However, federal law prohibits borrowing money from your employer-sponsored retirement accounts until you reach age 59 ½. 3. Private Student Loan
If you do not participate in a 401K or similar program offered by your employer; then you may want to consider a private student loan. While not directly connected with your personal finances, private student lending institutions like Sallie Mae, USANA Education Services, Discover Financial Services, and Synchrony Bank offer low-interest rate loans. Depending on the type of loan you choose, you may be eligible for both government and non-government backed programs. 4. Parent PLUS Loan
The Federal Perkins Loan Program provides additional funding and assistance to students attending college after high school graduation. Eligible parents who successfully complete the FAFSA and meet income eligibility requirements may apply for a parent PLUS loan. Parents who receive their first Pell Grant award during the 2017-2018 academic year are ineligible for a parent PLUS loan, however, parents who received a Pell Grant before September 30th 2017, can still apply for a parent PLUS. 5. Private Unsubsidized Loan
Private lenders like SoFi, Credible, Lending Home, and OneUnited offer unsubsidized loans. You may qualify for these loans based on your credit history, employment status, and assets. 6. Payday Loans
Payday loans are short-term cash advances designed to give borrowers quick access to funds for emergency expenses, bills, or unexpected costs. Borrowers use payday loans to cover a wide range of different expenses including rent payments, medical bills, utilities, groceries, taxes, childcare, daycare, gas, car repairs, phone, insurance, clothing, entertainment, and more. If you are looking to take advantage of a fast loan option for urgent expenses, you should search for a reputable direct lender. Most payday lenders are no longer able to accept customers under 18 years old.
7. Direct Subsidized Stafford Loan
A Stafford Loan is a Federal Subsidized loan for undergraduate and graduate studies.
