How do I become a client?

Once you sign-up and activate your account, you’ll receive your activation code via email. Simply enter your Activation Code at www.nelnet.com to complete your application. If you don’t remember your Activation Code, please contact us at 888-900-8184. You can also call us Monday-Friday between 9am – 5pm Central Time at 800-876-1665.

Can I change my address if I move?

Yes. We allow you to update your address information anytime. You can do this either online by logging onto www.nelnet. com and clicking ‘My Account’ and then ‘Address Information’, or by contacting us at 1-800-876-1664 weekdays between 9 AM and 5 PM Central Time.

Is this transaction fee included?

No. There is a $9.95 transaction fee per each activity performed using your card. Fees vary depending on how you choose to fund your account. If you’re charged fees, simply log into your account and make the appropriate changes.

What happens after I fund my account?

Your account funds will appear on your statement immediately. Your debit card will be issued once your account has been funded. Please note that some businesses or third parties may require additional verification before they issue your debit card.

I have received my debit card, now what?

After receiving the card, you should start using it right away. To ensure proper functionality, please refer to your card’s user manual. Do not discard the card; instead, keep it safe in case of loss or theft. Also keep your card handy as you might need it to access your funds. For security purposes, we may ask you to verify certain identifying information, including your full name, date of birth, social security number and driver’s license number.

Do I need to provide anything else?

You may be asked to verify your identity (e.g., your Social Security Number) to confirm your identity and protect against fraud. This process helps us verify that the person requesting a product or service is actually you. Most companies that request this information will give you a choice to decline this request. However, some companies may request your full name, last four digits of your SSN, date of birth, mailing address, phone number, and email address.

What products do I need?

How long do Nelnet hours last?

The Nelnet Hours are free to use, however they have no expiration date. You may log in at any time and view your current hours usage and balance or purchase additional hours via the online web store.

What if I don’t want to use my credit card online?

You can take advantage of our convenient paperless billing option that comes with every plan. Simply send us your payment (check, money order or cash) along with your invoice number, your name, address and phone number and we’ll bill you directly. All payments are due upon receipt.

Does my monthly service charge cover taxes?

Yes. Your monthly service fee includes state sales tax, county and city property taxes, utility fees, and federal income tax. If you owe local taxes in addition to federal taxes, contact your local taxing authority to determine whether your home-based business qualifies for exemptions or deductions.

Who pays for service calls?

All costs associated with service calls are borne by the customer.

How many Nelnet Hours do I need for each month?

For most residential customers, 1 hour per day should provide adequate coverage; for commercial accounts, 2 hours per day would be recommended.

How much does it cost to set up a new account?

A standard residential package starts at $39.95/month ($5.00 service charge). A standard commercial package starts at $99.95/month ($10.00 service charge). We offer special pricing packages for schools and churches.

Any Nelnet Hours past the allotted amount will not be billed until the following month’s service charges are processed.

Question 4: Do I need a phone line to get online?

Answer: No, we do not require a telephone line. All you need is internet access.

Question 5: Are there discounts for using my Medicare card?

Answer: Currently we do not accept Medicare Advantage plans.

Question 6: Can I set up automatic billing?

Answer: Currently, Nelnet requires manual payment each month. We do not allow automatic billing to occur through Nelnet.

It takes approximately 4 business days to create and send your account activation email to the address provided in your application. Once you have activated your account, you should start receiving eStatements in about 10 business days. Please allow an additional 2 weeks before contacting us regarding payment issues.

Can I update my contact information?

Yes, you can change your name, address, phone number, email address, and credit card information as often as necessary. 6. What happens when I sign up for NELNET HOURS?

If you already have an existing NELNET Loan, you will need to log back into NELNET hours using your username and password. If you don’t have an existing NEL-NET Loan, you will be asked to complete an online application. Why do I need to pay my NELNET HOURS bills?

Your NELNET hours bill is automatically charged monthly starting two months prior to the date of purchase. All payments go directly to our service provider, Nelnet Financial Services, Inc., to cover charges incurred while processing your application. Your application is processed by our third party processor, TransUnion, who collects data and s reports from your application. In order to  your bill, they must submit it to Nelnet Financial Services and it’s their responsibility to charge you.
