Study Abroad Scholarships

Study Abroad scholarships are offered to students who have demonstrated leadership qualities as well as academic excellence. These scholarships are designed to encourage international student exchange.

American Student Assistance Fund (ASAF)

The American Student Assistance Fund (A SAF) was established under  IV Section 301(d) of the Higher Education Act of 1965. The purpose of the fund is to provide grants and loans to eligible institutions to assist undergraduate students and graduate students enrolled at such institution. Eligible individuals may receive funding as a direct loan, or through the use of Federal Work-study funds.

Educational Opportunity Grant (EOG)

An EOG grant is provided to qualifying students who demonstrate financial need. An EOG award is given directly to students based on their financial circumstances. Typically, EOG awards are awarded only to those students whose families make less than 400% of the federal poverty level (FPL).

National Defense Student Loan Program (NSLP)

The NSLP provides federally guaranteed educational assistance to postsecondary school students who wish to pursue higher education in order to prepare them for military service. The program helps pay for college costs including tuition, fees, books, room & board, transportation and personal expenses.

Perkins Loan

Perkins Loan grants are awarded to undergraduate students attending four year colleges and universities. In addition to providing for Pell Grant eligibility requirements, the Perkins Loan requires repayment of the loan amount over a period of ten years after graduation or completion of course work, whichever comes first.

Presidential Management Fellows (PMF)

The PMF program is administered by the White House Office of Public Liaison and is open to candidates from any field of study. The program seeks to strengthen America’s management talent base. Successful applicants are appointed as career members of the Senior Executive Service (SES), subject to Senate confirmation.

The world is getting smaller by day. People who study abroad have grown leaps and bounds in their career paths. And now they want to share their knowledge with others as well. In order to do this, they need money to fund their studies. But how do students get loans if they don’t even own a house?

There are many different ways that people can finance their education. There are government scholarships, private scholarships, grants and loans, and lastly family help. When looking at these options, make sure to consider what you plan to use the money for. If you are going to study medicine or engineering, then financial aid may not be necessary for you. However, if you want to study business administration, then student loans might be a necessity.

Student Loans

Students can borrow money from a variety of lenders. These include banks, credit unions, and loan companies. Banks offer loans ranging from $500-$50,000 while credit unions offer loans between $1500-$25,000. Loan companies tend to be the smallest and lend the least amount of money. Their loans range from $100-$5000. Of course, before applying for any loan, you should check out what interest rate you will face. Most banks and credit unions generally charge lower rates than the loan companies. If your bank charges a higher rate, consider moving to a different one.

Scholarships and Grants

If you qualify for financial aid, then you will likely receive some type of scholarship. Scholarships are given to those who meet certain requirements set forth by the school. Common scholarships include federal Pell Grants, state-funded programs, and need-based scholarships. Many colleges and universities give out scholarships based on merit rather than your financial situation. These types of scholarships are called merit scholarships.

Other Types of Financial Aid

There are other varieties of financial aid that are not listed above. Private scholarships are given by organizations and individuals to those who are deserving of them. For example, the Rhodes Scholarship is given to outstanding young men who wish to pursue careers in public service. Other examples include the Fulbright Scholarship, the Truman Scholarship, and the Goldwater Scholarship. Student loans and scholarships are two types of financial assistance that are given to students. These two forms of financial aid are quite similar because both allow students to access funds to pay for college without having to worry about paying back the money later on.

As mentioned earlier, many scholarships require students to attend specific schools. While this is true, other scholarships are open to anyone who meets qualifications. These include the National Merit Scholarship and the Presidential Grant. Both of these are non-need based scholarships. The National Merit Scholarship Program is the largest award system in the United States. Approximately 1 million high school seniors take the test each year. The top 500 students who score the highest score on this exam are eligible for a National Merit Scholarship. The second option is the Presidential Grant Award. This grant was created by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1965. Similar to the National Merit Scholarship, students must apply to the program and be nominated by their school. Once selected, the Presidential Grant recipient receives a $2500 per semester stipend.

Education Loans

Education loans are a great way to help fund any student’s education. There are many different types of educational loans out there today. Whether you want to study abroad or in-state at college, you may find a loan program that works best for your particular situation. Here are some of the ways to find education loans online:

A private student loan is typically used for higher education. This type of loan comes directly from an institution or lender rather than a government agency. This is a good option if you have already received financial aid or scholarships. However, these loans often carry high interest rates around 10%. These loans are not necessarily bad, but they do require careful consideration prior to accepting them.

Federal Student Loan

Federal student loans are offered by the federal government and are relatively low cost. If you qualify, you could receive funds to pay for school expenses. You would need to apply for the loan first before receiving any money. While these loans are low-cost, they do not always offer competitive rates.

Perkins Loan

Perkins loans are offered at several college campuses across the country. These types of loans are designed specifically for students who wish to attend community colleges. This type of loan does not go toward undergraduate studies, but towards job training. It is a lower interest rate compared to other federal loans.
